2014 BMW M4 / M3 CoupeRealistically Rendered

Posted by R.Jansen on , under , , , | comments (0)

Its name and the type of engine that will lie under its hood may be debatable, but plans for a successor to today's M3 Coupe do exist. However, you'll have to wait at least until 2013 to see the high performance model in BMW's dealerships.
For those of you that just can't wait to get a peek at the next M3 Coupe or perhaps as we may come to know it, the M4, graphic designer Jacek Kolodziejczyk has put his skills to work developing a pretty realistic rendering of the coupe model.
The 30-year old artist used several styling elements found on the new F30 3-Series sedan while also borrowing some cues from the M3 sedan prototypes scooped over the past few months.
While BMW is keeping its cards tight against its chest for the time being, it is believed that both the next M3 Coupe and Sedan models will replace the current M3's naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 with a smaller displacement six-cylinder engine employing two or maybe even three turbochargers for 450-horsepower or more.

2012 Ford Focus By Steeda

Posted by R.Jansen on , under , , , | comments (0)

The armada of Ford Focus models headed to SEMA is nothing short of overwhelming. A total of seven Focus models - you read that right: seven! - are set to be unveiled, offering a wide variety of choices and options for the Blue Oval’s sports hatchback.
One company that worked on their own tuned-up version of the Focus is Steeda. As a veteran of Ford tuning since 1979, Steeda knows a thing or two about working on Ford performance vehicles and they’re bringing all that experience and expertise on the new Focus with comprehensive aerodynamic and performance modifications.
Among the modifications the Ford tuner gave to the Focus include a new Steeda cold-air intake with Cool Tube technology, a new rear swaybar, a front tower brace, and new lowering springs that improves the Focus’ overall performance capabilities. On top of that, the Focus also received a 3dCarbon body kit, a G-Track front end brace, underhood billet aluminum-appearance items, and a new set of 19" HRE P43S Monoblock wheels wrapped in Nitto NT05 performance tires.
For a tuning firm that can boast of having over two decades of Ford tuning experience, Steeda’s work on the Ford Focus certainly does their reputation justice.

The world’s most destroyed Porsche is a sight for sore eyes

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

Just like us, all cars have an expiration date. Now, if your car has reached it’s last leg, you could take it to the nearest dumpster. Or you could get creative and donate it to some cause, like say, the Commonwealth Second Amendment (Comm2A), a group that aims to "bring some sanity to Massachusetts gun laws.
Here’s a Porsche 911, or rather, a completely disheveled 911 with a dead engine and a $20,000 repair bill staring at its owner’s face. Instead of swallowing his pride and forking over the dough to repair the sports car, the owner decided to donate the car to Comm2A, a non-profit organization that aims to protect gun rights.
 world’s most destroyed Porsche

For their part, the people of Comm2A seemed to have a pretty good idea on what to do with the 911: pepper it with as many gun shots as humanly possible. Might sound like a crime to do to a car like the Porsche 911, but according to Comm2A, the car really had no other purpose; its condition was bad enough that you couldn’t even sell off the parts individually.

So instead of salvaging it, might as well give it some kind of send-off, right?

Spyker Cars Becomes Swedish Automobile

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

We knew something was going on when a Swedish newspaper reported that Volvo was looking into purchasing Saab from Spyker, but the deal didn’t exactly go down like they had stated. Volvo won’t be purchasing the Swedish automaker, but as of June 15, 2011, the Spyker/Saab pair will now be known as Swedish Automobile N.V. (SWAN) after both companies were purchased by the Chinese Pang Da Automobile (Pang Da). Pang Da gaveSpyker new life by filling its veins with a €65 million investment for a 24 percent stake in the company.
In a previous statement, Victor Muller, CEO Spyker Cars and Saab Automobile, said: "Based on our discussions with Pang Da we are confident about the possibility of Pang Da obtain regulatory approvals necessary to formalize the transaction. I am very eager to create a solid company with Pang Da, first in the distribution and subsequently in the manufacture of Saab cars in China. It must be stressed that the prepayment Pang Da and sales of Saab cars imported are not subject to approval by the NDRC. The first advance of 30 million has been received by Saab on Tuesday."

Ferrari top final day of Barcelona test

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

Felipe Massa topped the timesheets on the last day of Barcelona testing this week, as Ferrari found pace over Red Bull. The team were running a heavy day with Massa completing over 120 laps, and they revealed some of their intended plans via Twitter this morning.
Today's programme includes tyre comparison and set-up changes. The weather is fine with clear skies. Temperatures are still a bit cold.
Webber was second for Red Bull, with Sebastién Buemi third for Toro Rosso. Lotus had a terrible day, cut short by a crash out on track for Jarno Trulli. In their post-test press release, the team revealed that it was a car failure and not driver error that had caused the accident, and a lack of spare parts meant they had to curtail their programme mid-morning.
Other teams having trouble included Jérôme D'Ambrosio who stopped out on track and was whisked away for a lengthy delay in the garage. Michael Schumacher and Pastor Maldonado both caused some stoppage time when their Mercedes and Williams cars stopped out on track.

The Top Pickups for 2011

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

We cannot tell a lie: The six cars below are Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine’s top value picks this Presidents Day for $30,000-and-up vehicles.
“We feel these are the best cars for the money,” said Kiplinger’s Associate Editor Jessica Anderson, who analyzes more than 1,000 vehicles every year.
Kiplinger’s compiles its annual rankings by using a secret formula to compare a car’s price to its roominess, fuel efficiency, expected insurance premiums and other costs.
Saturday’s Herald looked at Kiplinger’s top picks for cars costing less than $30,000. Below are the magazine’s favorite $30,000-and-up models.
“Best in Class” vehicles represent Kiplinger’s No. 1 overall choice in each price range, while “Best New Car” ratings refer to the top-ranked new or redesigned 2011 in each category:
$30,000-$45,000 cars
Best in Class: Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Anderson said this diesel-power vehicle is literally Kiplinger’s favorite car of all time. She said the model combines roominess and high performance with a diesel engine that boosts fuel economy by nearly 30 percent. (Base price: $44,825)

Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
Best New Car: Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. This luxury ride gets the nod partly because it costs the same as a gas-powered MKZ at a time when most automakers charge some $5,000 extra for hybrid versions of cars. “You don’t have to make a choice between being green and saving money,” Anderson said. (Base price: $35,180)
$45,000-and up rides
Best in Class: Mercedes-Benz E350 Blue-TEC. The Mercedes E-Class already took Kiplinger’s “Best New Car” award when it premiered last year, but the new diesel version rates a “Best in Class” honor for 2011. Anderson said the model’s clean-diesel engine gets a category-leading 33 mpg/highway even though it puts out 210 horsepower. (Base price: $51,775)

Best New Car: Infiniti M56 four-door. This model offers good resale value, relatively low maintenance and insurance costs — and a beefy 420-horsepower engine that nonetheless gets 25 mpg/highway. (Base price: $58,775)
Sports cars
Best in Class: Porsche Boxster Spyder manual. The spartan 300-horsepower Boxster Spyder offers “power and performance without paying for the extra bells and whistles,” Anderson said. (Base price: $62,150)
Ford Mustang GT manual
Best New Car: Ford Mustang GT manual. Anderson said the redesigned Mustang GT boasts high resale value, good fuel efficiency, relatively low maintenance and insurance costs and a “killer” 412-horsepower engine. (Base price: $30,495)

General Motors recently said that it will bring more than 20 new and upgraded models to China in the next two years.

Dan Akerson, the US automaker's chairman, made the announcement during his first visit to China last week. He said the company will strengthen local product development, expand sharing of technology with local partners and take the lead in introducing new energy vehicles, including the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car.

GM now has 11 auto-related joint ventures with SAIC Motor Corp and FAW Group. It sold 2.35 million vehicles in China, up 29 percent over 2009.

Honda recalls Jazz Sport, City models in NZ

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

Japanese car maker Honda is recalling about 1200 vehicles in New Zealand because of defective parts that could stall engines.
The company says owners of the 1.5-litre Jazz Sport and City 2009-2010 models have been notified of the recall.
Honda New Zealand says there is a potential fault with small springs in the engine valve control gear.
It says if a fault does occur an abnormal noise will be generated or, in extreme cases, there may be damage causing the engine to stall and not restart.
Honda New Zealand head of marketing Graeme Meyer says for most people with these models, nothing will go wrong.
Mr Meyer says it is possible the car could stall at speed - but that would be under exceptional circumstances and only one minor incident has been reported in New Zealand.
Nearly 700,000 vehicles have been recalled worldwide.
In December, Honda recalled more than 1 million Fit models to repair a headlight fault.
