Caterham Superlight
The Caterham Superlight has been designed to achieve the best possible dynamic package from the already competent Caterham Roadsport. This has been achieved by reducing the weight to a bare minimum whilst packaging the car with as many performance-enhancing options as possible.

Although the car is supplied fully road legal, this unique model contains many track options. The stripped out interior with carbon fibre dashboard, Caterham four point race harness, Caterham composite race bucket seats and wind deflector in lieu of windscreen are fitted as standard.
Standard equipment includes:
Competition specification engine
Carbon dashboard
Caterham 6 speed gearbox
Ventilated front discs with four pot calipers
de Dion competition derived rear suspension
Adjustable rear anti-roll bar
Wide track and bespoke road tyres

The complete package gives this car a total kerb weight of only 485 kgs, which is 65 kgs lighter than the standard Roadsport model. (R500 in standard form weighs in at 465 kgs). If you want to personalise your car, there is a list of options to add to your specifications and customers requiring the added practicality of windscreen and full weather equipment can of course specify these.
The Superlight Seven is available in three different guises.

Caterham R500

Posted by R.Jansen on , under | comments (0)

The Superlight R500 represents the ultimate expression of Colin Chapman’s fundamentals. Big power isn’t the only route to big kicks; the R500 is all about lightweight performance – be it on the road or track.
Stripped to the bare essentials, all unnecessary comforts are removed to save weight and reduce mass. As with the other Caterham 7 Superlight models, the result is a car with performance to take your breath away by delivering driving thrills in the purest form. However, the R500 takes these values and triple distills them into super refined Class A, 101 octane, artillery caliber, weapons grade driving thrills.

More Information

The original R500 was legendary, with the old Rover K-series powered machine rewriting performance records for 0-60mph and 0-100-0mph times. This new variant has been equipped to supersede its predecessor by embracing the very latest in lightweight engineering techniques and technology.

Whilst the Superlight R500 shares some common parts with the other Superlight model, it has many bespoke standard and optional items that define its intentions of being the ultimate performance model in our range. Weight savings are achieved through a philanthropic application of carbon-fibre goodies, bringing the total weight of the car in at just 506kgs. Extreme performance is attained through cramming the engine bay with as many horses as possible – 263 of them to be precise. Mathematicians amongst you will have already calculated that anyone committed enough to strap themselves into the Kevlar race seats will be deploying a mighty 520 bhp-per-tonne with their right foot, capable of firing the car from 0-60 mph in just 2.88 seconds.

Superlight incorporates the motorsport expertise of Caterham Engineering, gained through 20 years of its industry leading one-make race championships. The Caterham 7 is among the most raced car models in the world, with over 700 competitors across 11 countries. Everything Caterham has learnt about performance and safety is incorporated into the design of the Superlight. Indeed, the R500’s new optional sequential gearbox has been tested thoroughly through our motorsport programme, clocking up track time equivalent to over a full season’s worth of testing, practicing, qualifying and racing in just a few months. What’s more, in another first for Caterham, we utilised the experience of over 50 racing drivers from various Caterham race series’ to test the gearbox. In all of this testing, the gearbox did not experience a single failure and was unanimously well received. In fact, the drivers liked it so much that it has been adopted into both the Superlight and CSR race series as an option.

If you want a pure driver’s car that delivers blistering on-road performance, raw driving thrills and outrageous track-day ability in equal measure then the Superlight R500 is for you. Hold on tight.

Audi A3 Black Edition released for the UK Market

Audi have released a new A3 Black Edition, for each of the 3 A3 Variants, the 3-door hatchback, 5-door fastback and the cabriolet. The Black Edition comes in standard Brilliant Black paint colour, and it features new things such as a de-chromed front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels from the S-line that now feature a new exclusive dark titanium finish, there is also tinted glass which is extended from the B-pillar in the closed top models.

The cabriolet model features a black outlining on the roll bars and shoulder line.

The black theme is continued throughout the interior with high gloss Piano-black inlays, part leather-upholstered sports seats from the S-line and a range of other black coloured things.

The new package will cost 905 UK pounds, and Audi claims that it will cost less than the separate options from the S-line.

Press Release:

Black is the new white for the Audi A3

Black Edition specification further enhances sought-after three-door, five-door Sportback and Cabriolet ranges

  • New Black Edition special edition versions of A3, A3 Sportback and A3 Cabriolet now available to order priced from £22,215 OTR to £27,395 OTR – first deliveries in February 2009
  • Enhanced Black Edition specification is based on top S line trim and available in conjunction with 1.8 TFSI (160PS), 2.0 TFSI (200PS), 2.0 TDI (140PS) and 2.0 TDI (170PS) engines
  • De-chromed exterior available in five colour schemes – Brilliant Black or Ibis White are no cost
  • ” Privacy glass (for hatchback versions), dark titanium alloy wheels, Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and acoustic parking (for Cabriolet models) among the extras added

New Audi A3 Black Edition models emerge from the shadows this month to join the popular three-door, five-door Sportback and Cabriolet ranges. Combining dark and brooding looks with an exceptional specification that takes the top S line model as its basis, the new limited run A3 range can be ordered now priced from £22,215 OTR to £27,395 OTR, and will reach the UK in early February.

To set the tone, Black Edition models feature a de-chromed front grille and, in the Cabriolet versions, black surrounds for the roll bars and the shoulder line. 18-inch S line design alloy wheels with an exclusive dark titanium finish continue the theme in all three variants, and in the hatchbacks privacy glass extends from the B-pillar. For the full effect, these features are combined with Brilliant Black paint at no extra cost, but the fashionable no-cost option of Ibis White and the extra cost metallic options Phantom Black, Misano Red and Monza Silver are also available.

They may keep a lower profile in some respects, but the A3 Black Editions also make their presence very much felt in others, thanks not only to their sporting S line body styling treatments but also to their standard fit Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps.

Black interiors too

Inside, the Black Editions are marked out by high gloss Piano black inlays, and the already extensive S line specification is enhanced by a high output Bose speaker system, acoustic rear parking sensors and an exclusive flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel.

The S line package also offers sports suspension, part leather-upholstered sports seats, electronic climate control and an Audi Concert audio system with single CD player and MP3 compatibility. In Cabriolet Black Edition models, available exclusively with a black acoustic hood, it also includes fully automatic hood operation and a wind deflector.

The new Black Edition specification is available in conjunction with the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines (160PS and 200PS) and the two advanced 2.0 TDI common rail engines (140PS and 170PS). It carries a premium of £905 over the equivalent S line model in each case which, when the additional equipment it offers is taken into account, represents a customer saving of £675 on the A3 Black Edition and £650 on the A3 Cabriolet Black Edition.

Other Audi Hatchback

Audi now displays its premium character even more explicitly through new attentive details on both the exterior and the interior.

The sporty elegance of the A3 models is already perfectly expressed in their design; their harmonious styling now acquires a host of new, exclusive touches. The single-frame grille element and the trims on the B-posts are painted in high-gloss black, the lower air inlets have chrome struts, the exterior mirrors are aerodynamically optimized and there are chrome strips in the door handles (except on the S3).
